Well hello there! My name's Katie and if you can't tell from the title of this blog, I'm a new special education teacher. As in, I graduated from college in May 2016 and have a teaching job. As proud of myself I am, I'm terrified.
After graduating I taught English in Spain for two weeks as part of an internship, took one long-term substitute position at a local charter school, and landed my dream job as a special education teacher with an agency that caters to kiddos with emotional disturbances.
I started this blog because I wanted to remember my first year teaching. It's a pretty safe assumption that I'm going to be working like a dog this year and probably will want to forget most of what happened. HA! When I created this blog I made a promise to myself that I would be honest and real with whatever I was feeling. So you may get some bleeped out words, frustration, and probably some posts that really just don't make sense. But you'll also see posts that express gratitude, understanding, passion, and growth.....Well, you'll at least see the growth part. I hope?
When I'm not in the classroom, I'm usually eating chocolate, baking, Christmas shopping, or reading. Oh yea, I started a book club with my college friends as an excuse to hang out. You can see what we're reading here :)
Please enjoy my ramblings as I terrain myself through my first year of teaching!
